You do not have to go out and buy a large amount of machinery for small repair jobs. We will tell you which power tools are suitable for household use.
You do not have to go out and buy a large amount of machinery for small repair jobs. All you need is an impact drill to start with.
If at a later date you intend to do more extensive work, you can gradually add other power tools to your collection.
An impact drill drills in wood and metal and – when the impact mechanism is switched on – also in wall materials. A drill with two gears is recommended. The first gear delivers sufficient power for thick drill bits and for driving large screws; the second gear is used for drilling with small drill bit diameters.
If you have a lot of concrete walls in your house, it is better to use a small rotary hammer. It hammers through the hardest concrete virtually of its own accord. When purchasing a rotary hammer, make sure it has a rotation stop, so that you can also use it for chiselling.
It is worth buying a cordless screwdriver for fast driving and removing of screws. Cordless drill/drivers are considerably more powerful – e.g. for fitting appliances or for furniture manufacture.
The jigsaw is a versatile electric saw for household use. It saws wood, wooden materials such as chipboard, plastics and metals. What's more, you can use a special blade instead of the saw blade, enabling you to cut soft materials such as textiles, leather and insulation materials.
A tip from an expert: Power tools are often also sold as a set with matching accessories in a carrying case. These offers provide considerable price advantages.
